This was one of my 1st releases as a singer, it was a daunting process, because I thought this song was a message of inspiration to “someone out there”, when in fact it was screaming at me to stop saying what I’d like to do or what I always wanted to do, and just get out there and stop running from my destiny. Hope you enjoy this one!
“Time is fleeting as you fade away
Life’s about what you do and not what you say”
The very 1st line is an invite for the procrastinator, for the fearful artist I was hiding from the world because I would listen to the voices of the naysayers play loudly in my mind. Their long-winded reasons for why I should give up started to stick. I started to believe what they had to say and place more value on their opinions and let go of what I’ve always believed I have inside.
In the 2nd verse, I was thinking about the past, what it meant to me and what it had done to me, I easily get into the headspace of blame and shame, in this process I try to find what it is I did wrong, but if not carefully done, it can leave one feeling more discouraged than encouraged. It became clear to me that the time spent in thought trying to frame the past, could have been better spent on planning my future, or writing a good song.
The song is ultimately asking the following questions:
- Do you exist for a specific purpose?
- Do you choose your own destiny and live with purpose?
- Regardless of what your answer is for questions 1 and 2, the 3rd question is are you working hard to do so?
- Are you playing games with your time left?
My belief is, you decide what it is you want to do with your life, the hard part is getting from wanting to do something to actually doing something.
“You may delay, but time will not, and lost time is never found again.”
